I got this mannequin at a recent garage sale (for $7.00!!!). Maybelle is a full-figured gal, with no markings. I've never seen one with the
string in the middle of bust--I wonder what it's for? Anyone have any information on her? For now she is content to stand at the end of the hallway. Soon she will be in my new craft room!

Don't know what the string is for...but I like her! Great find.
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT!

I am intrigued by the string in the middle. I wonder if it was used to adjust something.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible find! Would the string have something to do with re-sizing her?
ReplyDeleteCheers!
I've been wanting my own gal since I started my collection of vintage clothing this summer. You sure got a looker for that price. Good for you. Read your personal profile...I totally understand! :)
ReplyDeleteSo nice to meet you and thanks for sharing!

I just love this "girl". What a find!! These tend to be very expensive when they're in this good shape. I think you really lucked out.
ReplyDeleteDon't know what the shoe string is for. Maybe it makes that area smaller? Have you tried to pull it?
What a find!!! $7.00 has to be the vintage buy of the day. Maybelle is a beauty!! I can't help you out with the string thing. I have a vintage dress form in my studio, her name is Shirley! But Shirley cost me a whole lot more than Maybelle.
ReplyDeleteMy Goodness...I have been looking high and low for one of these, but when I find them, the price it too much. What a find! I love it.....Have a great VTT!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness! This is great! ok, I know who to tag a long garage selling with....hehe.
ReplyDeleteThat really is an awesome find. So many cute things you could do with her! And what a bargain! So cool!
Jan - thanks for stopping by my blog. I wanted to tell you that you are SO right about how heavy that typewriter is. I can't believe how much that thing weighs. I carried it in from the garage last night and put it on my kitchen floor to take a picture and I thought I might not be able to lift it back off the floor....I was very careful not to hurt my back. It's no wonder the lady at the thrift store gave it to me for free!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky! Those are so expensive and you can use them for so many things.
ReplyDeleteOH!OH!OH! i sssooo WANT her!!!..what a BEAUTY & what a BARGAIN!!!..i think the string is to adjust her bust size, maybe??
ReplyDeleteThere is no way I will ever find a mannequin to display my aprons and photograph them. I have just almost given up (*note the almost)..yours is such a beauty tho, I will just have to keep searching. Happy VTT..have a most lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteShe's beautiful and a great find! I would guess it's a dressmaker's mannequin and the string is to make the bust larger or smaller. But, I don't know for sure.
ReplyDeleteI love her girly look! The bow in the front is the perfect touch. Will you do craftroom-warming party so we can come see it?!
ReplyDeleteOh, she is AWESOME! I can only GUESS that the string was to change the shape of her bust line.
ReplyDeleteSomeone a few months back was wanting to BUY a mannequin - - - whoever that was is gonna be JEALOUS when they see this!!!
We have a mannequin in our family, too. First I had it but now it's passed on to my sister who does a lot more sewing!
ReplyDeleteWhen kids see it they often ask "What's that?". Not much sewing going on in their houses!
