I got this in a box of laces. It looks like some talented young lady kept a sampler of sorts of lace she had made, stitching each one on to a page. There is no title or mark anywhere on this soft cover booklet, but there is a page on the inside back that has an illustration of a boy and a girl in a horse-drawn carriage (you can click on the photos to enlarge them), and two lines, which have been penciled in with a name: "Laura John". Or is it "Laura, John"? If anyone knows if keeping of a sampler was a common practice and from what era this might be from, I'd love to know!

How neat! I love old books, but to also be a pattern selection of sorts is really neat.
ReplyDeleteI don't know but you probably have a real treasure! It's uniqueness alone is worth bunches. Keep it! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteVery unique.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure...looks very old to me circa 1900 perhaps :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great old book. Very unusual treasure to be sure! Thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a neat item to have.
ReplyDeleteVery unusual!
A wonderful treasure. I adore old sewing and stitchery items. I can get lost in thoughts about who did it, why did they do it etc... Imagine the hands that made the lace, attaching it to the book. All done with love for the craft, and certainly a lost art!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy it!
I've never seen anything like that before. It's really neat.
ReplyDeleteThat's a keeper, the lace book makes me wonder about the person who made it, doesn't it?
