You Can Come In, But You Can't Sit Down

Ho hum. Flat is bland. Flat is dull. Flat is boring (just look at my bust line!).
My remedy for boring is "to fluff". Fluff is eye-catching. Fluff is details. Fluff is interesting. So I fluffed a door at the shop.
We had a flat boring door at the end of a hallway which Susan wanted to jazz up a little. So I gave it a little depth with paint.

Then we wanted to shine a little light on the subject, so I painted a chandelier.

Never one to stop fluffing if no one's around to stop me, I painted a floor on the door to match
the floor at the other end of the hall. (You can see part of that boring door at the end of the hall in this photo).
Now it looks like we're getting somewhere. But I'm getting a little tired of sitting on my folded legs.
It's time to take a seat in this private little alcove

admire the newly polished marbled floor and wonder what else I can fluff?
(Wish I could fluff my bust line this easily!)

Past Due Tuesday ~ Star Quality

Ok, so I am taking liberties with the percentage of "vintage" in this item. Some of it IS vintage--the image and perhaps the convex glass, mirror and ferns. But having just gone here, I had to share this! (It was made by Wendy Addison). I've had it for about 2 years and have it hanging on an oar in my seaside powder room where I can admire it everyday.

Now it's your turn! Share your love of vintage items every Tuesday at the ROOMIES blog!

Brag Monday ~ My December Blog Header

Thanks to Karen at The Graphics Fairy for hosting "Brag Monday"! She's having a giveaway in celebration of her 2,000 followers!

I nabbed the free sheet music graphic as soon as I saw it on her site in November of last year, Vintage sheet music and the holidays is a festive combo!

A Magical Wind Blows Through It

(Click on the photos for extreme inspiration)

You know you're in for a treat when you open the weathered door and find too much glitter at your feet to ever be swept away.

The wind blew as we drove the windy roads into the heart of Port Costa, CA. Wendy Addison's Theatre of Dreams is a favorite place to go be inspired.

Soak it all in, and wait for the sugar plums to begin their dance in your head.

Wendy's new line is a circus so colorful I can hear the calliope play. (I bet these joyful cutouts and have a party in there when the lights turn off and everyone goes home.) And you can now buy her famous glass glitter in every color of the rainbow to use on your own dreamy projects.

She is always a gracious host, but this weekend she was inviting everyone to step into her workshop next door and make a tag on her printing press, and...

to see her new handmade book

and to peek at the implements of HER inspiration:

Good-bye Theatre of Dreams until next time: Fri. and Sat. Dec. 4 & 5, and Fri. and Sat. Dec 11 & 12th. Go HERE for more information.

Past Due Tuesday ~ Not Bigger Than A Breadbox...

because it is a breadbox!!! I have several of these metal lidded boxes used to store breads.

I however, do not store bread in any of them. My little pink house is very small, so every inch counts.

I have future craft projects stored in these ones on the bookcase. In the kitchen, they store

standard-sized cereal boxes which do not fit in any of my kitchen cabinets (I want to find the designer of my cabinetry, grab them by the collar, look into their eyes and ask "WHY?!?!?!?). I found them all while looking for treasures to sell HERE, but they came home with me!

Past Due Tuesday ~ Plates

Just a quick post as I am "under the weather" today! Since our host for Past Due Tuesdays at ROOMIES posted about plates, I wanted to share my plates. I got these old mismatched plates from some friends, and had just enough to do one run of border in the backyard! I've been wanting to do this for a long time, and am still trying to get more to finish edging the rest of the yard!

Now it's your turn--join us for Past Due Tuesday and share YOUR vintage stuff!

Past Due Tuesday ~ Homer Laughlin Pink Rose

I've had this set of china for about 10 years. I collected it piece by piece until I had a service for 8.
I think this pattern was made in the 1940's, and it's hard to get right now!

I use it every Easter for the family get together, and although I still love the pattern of the single pink rose and wide pink band,

I'm thinking of moving on with something different, cuz it's just "not me" any more, you know what I mean? Maybe it's time for someone else to love it?

Daisy, You're Crazy!

I went to visit my husband's family in Las Vegas recently. I love them very much, but I fell deeply in love with my sister-in-law, Ginny's cat, Daisy. She is so sweet, and crazy and she loves pigeons as much as I do, although it's for different reasons. Anyway, I had fun painting this little 5 x 7 (acrylic on canvas board) as a thank you to Ginny who insisted we stay at her darling house. (When my pink house grows up, it wants to be just like hers!)

Past Due Tuesday ~ Old Book

Entitled "Encyclopedia Of Social & Business Forms", this old book, (found at a garage sale in the $1.00 box) was signed by the giver in 1882. The date of publication is not visible, but starts with "187_"!

(You can click on the image to enlarge it)

It is full of engraved plates protected by tissue, but what I love about it most are the great flourished fonts, and the content gives a written glimpse at what was socially acceptable behaviour of the day. (For all you newlyweds unsure of how to behave, please check out "The Duties Of The Wife" section).

According to a reputable bookseller, it's not worth a dime in its condition, but it's very dear to my heart.

Past Due Tuesday ~ Red Hot

I don't cook but my kitchen is red hot! Actually it's green (probably with envy of those who cook well or maybe it's just trying to disguise the unmentionable food gone bad in my fridge!) but I have lots of red accents. You may recognize the red-checked apron from an earlier post when I used it as a window treatment. The darling crochet hot pads were found and given to me by my sister Pat. The other items were all found during my hunts for items I like to sell at the shop, but they came home to roost in my kitchen instead. I've been wanting to use that rusty tool for mixing pie crusts for displaying photos. Hard to explain, but you make a stand of some sort with a wood block so that it stands vertically and slip a photo in the wire. Cuz you KNOW it's not gonna get used for making crusts in my house.

You'll Gasp, You'll Cry, You'll Scream In Horror!

The Queen Of Scream knows all, sees all. Tonight is the opening event for October at the shop. Usually, we all wear cute little flowered vintage hats, but tonight it's different. A little darker if you will.
Here's my finished crown. My "Queen Of Scream" is surrounded by her trained black widow spiders, who sit on wire spiderwebs, and she is guarded by her two bony henchmen. No sissy pets for them, they each have a cockroach!

The back is tied up with burnt orange lace for a comfortable & adjustable fit! Put it over a black witch hat and POOF! it's a hat!

The Queen has spoken. You may now kiss the dirt upon which my dark soul walks and go shopping at Room With A Past!

Past Due Tuesday ~ (I) Have A Seat

I got this chair about 4 months ago (FOR $12.00 I might add!), and it's been patiently waiting for me to recover it ever since. The fabric currently on it is in great shape, but it's not my taste. I don't think I even sat in it before I snapped it up!

Luckily it's comfy, and I love the detail, so it's a keeper!

Brag Monday ~ Moonbeam Elixer

This altered bottle was my first attempt at digital art. I got the large rectangular label and the smaller horizontal labels from The Graphics Fairy. The hauntingly beautiful woman image is from Mind Wide Open's monthly art contest. I entered this bottle in the contest last year AND WON!!!! You could have knocked me over with an Autumn breeze! Thanks Karen!

Vintage Thingies Thursday ~ Lots Of Love

Two dear sweet women who have become fast friends of mine recently bequeathed these vintage items unto me.

These two women know how I love anything with a house or a bird on it

and how I am adopting orphaned plates,

and how I have a love for things with a history of love behind them.

I think I hit the jackpot here
and I'm not talking about what you see in these pictures. Thanks Connie and Lisa.
